FAQ’s

Back in 1796, Benjamin Thompson, better known as Count Rumford, made history by significantly improving the performance of the fireplace. One of his improvements include soapstone. And why not? A soapstone lined firebox absorbs the heat of an open fire rapidly, but releases it slowly over time to keep your hearth and your toes toasty. In fact, lining a firebox with Vermont Soapstone improves its efficiency by up to 300%. To this day, soapstone continues to be the material of choice for masons and architects when efficiency is a priority.

Soapstone can do as much for the look of your fireplace as it does for its performance. Over the years, we’ve worked with architects and fireplace designers to create one-of-a-kind fireplace exteriors and trim. The results have been extremely gratifying…for our customers, the designers and for us.
