Back in 1796, Benjamin Thompson, better known as Count Rumford, made history by significantly improving the performance of the fireplace. One of his improvements include soapstone.

And why not? A soapstone lined firebox absorbs the heat of an open fire rapidly, but releases it slowly over time to keep your hearth and your toes toasty.

In fact, lining a firebox with Vermont Soapstone improves its efficiency by up to 300% over the use of masonry firebrick. To this day, soapstone continues to be the material of choice for masons and architects when efficiency is a priority.

Soapstone can do as much for the look of your fireplace as it does for its performance. Over the years, we've worked with architects and fireplace designers to create one-of-a-kind fireplace exteriors and trim. The results have been extremely gratifying…for our customers, the designers and for us.

Firebox available in 2.5" thickness: $120/sq-ft., cut to size.

Exterior and trim available in 1.25" thickness: $70/sq-ft., cut to size.

Soapstone Fire Brick available 9" x 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" @ $13.75 each and 9" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/4" @ $6.00 each.
